Updating garmin maps usa
The practical issue for us is that we like to travel in Canada (especially BC), and the memory constraint/map size has rendered the Nuvi useless for our needs.
Any workaround for the updater refusing to allow me to download the maps I paid for?
Now the issue: No matter what I do in the "Lifetime Maps" utility, it refuses to let me download the North America map, even if I select download to computer only.
All I get is the message saying the map won't fit on my device. but to a terabyte hard drive with over 700 gig free!
You may also contact Garmin authorised dealer for product support.
Before proceeding, please back up your waypoints and route data.
I did some research and read the sticky post on maps 101 and I have ordered an 8 gig SD card for my Nuvi.
The Maps 101 article indicates that I should be able to get the larger region on the SD card.
Search for the software needed for your particular GPS.It's really easy and should only take about 10 minutes. While a GPS unit makes finding a destination much easier on the road, outdated maps and software make the device less effective. If you aren't sure which operating system is installed on your GPS, do an internet search for the manufacturer's website. Then move them onto your GPS unit by saving the map to your computer, hooking your GPS unit through a USB port and clicking and dragging the map into the "Maps" or similar folder on the unit. For instance, if you have a Tom Tom GPS, searching for "Tom Tom maps" or "free Tom Tom maps" will result in many sites where updates can be found for free. You may also directly download the maps to your GPS unit by selecting the unit's "Maps" (or similar) folder as the destination when saving downloaded maps.
